A Brief introduction to Liu Kong Liu Tian-wen

A Brief introduction to Liu Kong

Liu Tian-wen whose second name is Kong, was born in the Province of Wenzhou Zhejiang in China in 1960.  When he was a little boy he learnt traditional Chinese painting from his uncle Mister Liu Dan-zai, a famous artist in Shanghai and with whom he spent a lot of time.  As a child, he was touched by the magic of colours and creation. The technique of painting came naturally and very early on he was able to concentrate on the spirit of his art and on finding out what would make the difference between his uncle and himself, between the old and the new generation.

Liu Kong started with traditional Chinese painting and later mixed these techniques together with contemporary techniques.  Based on this mixture, his works are full of wise words and vivid harmony and they are very beautifully presented.  His creations present not only the use of the ink and paint but also a delicate technique of unity.  It also presents a taste of imagination by means of the control of color and lighting, the virtual and concrete arrangement and the contrast of dots and space

Mister Liu’s works include figures, landscapes, abstract elements, a lot of mystery and a strong range of colors combined with poetry. The works are delicately structured firstly by means of power making and secondly by care taking and are vitally presented by creating the concept of seeming real and false as well as by the use of simple and rough lines using the combination of ink and colors.

Liu Kong’s works float between virtual space and irregular colors and are full of Chinese mysterious flavor and contemporary skill.  His work also expresses elegant and Asian mystery. The clear and abstract color in the paintings has combined traditional and contemporary lyricism.  The soft mixture of the modern depiction concept and the traditional depiction spirit has formed a clear and tasteful depiction of Mister Liu’s style.

Each piece of his work is created by serious consideration, impassioned lines and ink, gorgeous colors and they absorb the art nutrient of abstract art and expressionism, stress impression and mystery senses and formed full, generous, and strong art characteristics.. Nothing is made for nothing.  What looks simple could suddenly have a very deep meaning and reflexion.  It is just Liu Kong’s personal style of expression.

As a member of China Painting and Calligraphy Art Research Association as well as being a member of Zhejiang Province Artist Association his works have won prizes in city, province and country exhibitions and have been reported in newspapers as well as on the television several times.
